FAQs

Not sure if Brooklyn Tri is for you? Here are some common questions we get asked:

Q: “Where do members swim?  Are there any club swim practices, and how do they work?”

A: Our members swim at a variety of different pools, including, but not limited to: the Dodge, Bed-Stuy, and Park Slope YMCAs, St. John’s, LIU, Berkeley Carroll, and various Parks & Rec pools throughout the city.  Both the Berkeley Carroll and LIU pools offer coached swim practices with a Master’s group, and many of our members swim with one of these groups, although they are not run by the club.  For information on schedules, fees, and general inquiries, please visit their respective websites at:

Q: “I am new to Brooklyn/triathlon and I’m not sure if the club is right for me. Can I try a workout before committing to the club?”

A: Yes, you can try a run or a Masters class, but not a bike or an open water swim (safety reasons). View our training calendar to see what we have to offer.

Q: “What does my $45 membership fee get me?”

A: Our club dues are very minimal compared to most triathlon clubs—most of the fees are use to cover club administrative expenses such as insurance, website maintenance, and the costs for our annual meetings.

Unfortunately, BTC does not have exclusive access to a pool to run club swim workouts. Therefore, the membership fee does not cover swim workouts.  Members do have access to various training programs in the area at an additional cost.

Q: “I’ve never done a triathlon before. Does it make sense to join?”

A: Yes, many of our members were in your shoes only a short time ago, and many people just like you join every year. We offer workouts and training experiences for all levels, from the beginner who is dreaming about his first race to seasoned iron distance competitors.

We believe in fostering a fun and friendly environment where training and racing is a passion we all share; regardless of your age and abilities. Some of our members are active primarily in running, swimming, duathlon and other multi-sport activitie s.
